👛 Show Your Love WITHOUT Spending Money

Happy Wednesday, frugal besties!

Are you still with me after Mardi Gras last night?

I hope so, because 2024 isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. After all, we just got hit with back-to-back holidays!

That’s right. Today is the most romantic day of the year. ❤️

Whether you plan to sit at home and binge watch How to Be Single with a bucket of ice cream in one hand and a crossword puzzle in the other (tried and true breakup method, I swear 🤞)…

…or you’re going on a swanky date with your partner, today is the perfect reminder to step back and reevaluate how you express love to yourself and those around you.

As someone who’s still firmly in the “dating” category with my significant other, I recognized I could use some help in the romance department.

Do I spend money on something expensive? Do we plan a dinner date? Do I scribble a love note on my old receipt?

Thankfully, I found this great article explaining what the five love languages are!

Check them out below, and plan a date with your hunnie (or yourself) that will fulfill these categories.

No need to go out and spend!

The 5 love languages:

1. Words of affirmation. 💬 For those that appreciate and feel valued by compliments and encouragement, this can mean offering some verbal affection, like “you look lovely today” or “something I love about you is ___.”

2. Quality time. ⏰ It is what it sounds like: spending time with another person (or alone time with yourself!). It doesn’t matter what you’re doing as long as you’re having fun!

3. Acts of service. 👨🏻‍🍳 Do you get warm fuzzies when your partner takes out the trash, fills up your car, and then makes you dinner, or vice versa? Acts of service is a totally free way to show someone that you care!

4. Gifts. 🎁 Of course this one has the potential to be the most expensive. However, this is The Friendletter, and we believe you can give gifts for inexpensive or even free. Have you ever considered making your partner something like a date night jar?

Just write down fun date ideas on scrap paper, stick them in a jar, and cutesy it up with things around your house! Boom. Valentine’s Day perfection.

5. Physical touch. 🫂 Snuggle up with a movie on a streaming service that you already have, pop some popcorn, and relax! (Or, more likely, fall asleep because it’s a Wednesday night, and who watches movies when there’s work in the morning?!)
