Happy Friday!

We recently talked about how we view spending, not as the enemy, but as a skill. Like any skill, knowing what to do and how to do it are two different things.

It’s a simple concept but simple doesn’t mean easy.

When was the last time you sat down and decided what you value? 💭

Never? You're not alone.

Defining what you value and don’t value isn’t like preferring mint chocolate chip to Grey Poupon ice cream. 🍧

It’s like lining up 100 delicious flavors and having to choose your favorites.

Every day.

There will probably be 30-40 flavors you like and some days you can choose 4 or 5 but other days you’ll only be able to afford one.

Life isn’t a Baskin Robbins but the practice of values-based spending is a lot like taste testing.

Our hope is to encourage you to try new things.

There's a great quote by David Allen, creator of the Getting Things Done productivity system:

You can do anything, but not everything.

David Allen

That’s how we feel about values-based spending. You can value anything but not everything. Nobody can tell you what’s good to value or spend on and what’s bad to value or spend on.

So as you head into the weekend, prioritize what you want to spend money on.

Don’t be bummed when there are inevitably things that aren’t high enough on the list to make it into your spending plan.

It’s not a “never.” It’s just a “not right now.”

Tuesday’s episode was another in the Frugal Side Hustle series with our sweet friend MK Williams on Self-Publishing as a Side Hustle. We cover tips for both aspiring fiction and non-fiction writers.

Today’s episode is a fun one: Ways ChatGPT Can Save You Money. Before the robots take over, they’ll be very helpful in saving you money.

Tune in wherever you get podcasts and let us know what you thought of the episode over on our latest Instagram post!

Jen’s picks for a stellar weekend.

Watch This: @modernfrugality on TikTok. I’m back guys. Making vids. Pretty unhinged at this point. If you’re on the tok, follow me.

Listen to This: HerMoney’s new podcast, How She Does It, interviews female executives to help women redefine their power, become prepared leaders, and give imposter syndrome the boot once and for all.

Follow today on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Do this: Go to the museum, or prepare to go. ;) Tomorrow is Free Museum Day here in St. Petersburg but every museum has some kind of free or uber discount day throughout the year.

Now is the time to Google when yours is! I did this and found that the museum I want to go to isn’t free this weekend but is having a free event in 3 weeks.

Meal Plan This: I’ve been obsessed with this Chicken Apple Sausage Salad all summer. I leave out the brussels sprouts and use regular walnuts because I’m lazy. Can confirm the generic chicken apple sausages from both Walmart and Aldi are both great choices.

Every frugal person knows that while one coupon is good, stacking multiple coupons is better. It’s the same with rewards, especially on a credit card. ESPECIALLY on a credit card that lets you pay your rent on it with no transaction fee!

Bilt Mastercard lets you earn up to 100,000 reward points per year on rent with no transaction fee. There are a ton of rewards you can get with Bilt Points but we love that you have the option to redeem them to save on next month’s rent payment, or save your points and put them towards a down payment. **

Bilt is the first rewards program to let you redeem points towards homeownership.

If you’re a renter, check out Bilt now! You have time to take advantage of double points on the first of every month. That’s 6X on dining, 4X on travel, and 2X on other purchases (except rent).

Catch ya later,
