Reward Yourself For Doing The Boring Stuff!

04/15/24 - Monday

I hope you’re having a marvelous Monday, Friends! 🌞

Wanna know something I’ve spent way too much time thinking about lately?

Medication.

Why is it so expensive?

Why do I always forget to pay for it with my Health Savings Account?

Why is there always leftover cold medicine scattered in every spare drawer or shelf in the house?

I don’t have answers for the first two questions, but I do have a solution for the last: an annual decluttering of the medicine cabinet!

Did you know the third Friday in April is National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day?

Neither did I, but it sounds like the perfect time to pick up this annual tradition!

Please be sure to check out some FDA recommendations for properly disposing of your medications–it’s not always the safest option to just toss or flush them!

Now that task is completed, let’s reward ourselves with some freebies this week! 📢

💊 On the topic of medication, have you ever looked for manufacturer’s coupons for your high cost meds? You can directly search online by combining the name of your medication with “manufacturer savings card” or “manufacturer savings coupon,” or you can ask about coupons through your pharmacy.

Amazon Pharmacy makes this easy with their online search tool that allows you to type in your medication and apply available coupons to your order at checkout, and you’ll reap the benefits of your Prime membership on shipping!

🧾 It’s also Tax Day this week, so a lot of businesses offer Tax Day celebrations. Rumor has it Potbelly is offering a free Original Sandwich with the purchase of any original or big sized sandwich using code BOGO

📄 Shred any (old) tax documents you no longer need at Office Depot for free! Scroll that page to find the coupon for free 5lbs in-store shredding service!

🍦 What better way to celebrate than with Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day on April 16?!

We’ve all been there… we pay our insurance premiums and still get hit with that copay and deductible when we least expect it.

Recently, I had a very high medication cost that wasn’t covered by insurance. AND the pharmacy only accepted payments from actual checking accounts, so I couldn’t use my HSA (weird, right?).

Fortunately, I was able to dip into the sinking funds I had set aside in my high yield saving account.

If you haven’t yet opened an HYSA for your sinking funds, check out CIT Bank, who is offering a 4.65% APY. **
