Is Social Media Making You Lonely?
10/10/25 - Friday

Hey friend 👋
We scroll, we like, we post, and we tell ourselves we’re staying connected.
But what we don’t see immediately is how that “connection” is quietly eroding real-life relationships and deepening our loneliness.
A new long-term study followed nearly 7,000 Dutch adults over nine years and found something unsettling: both passive scrolling and active posting were linked to increased feelings of loneliness over time.
In other words, even when we’re engaging, social media may not heal our social hunger, it may inflame it.
Former U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has called loneliness a “deep pain” and argued that social media accelerates it by swapping depth for breadth in our relationships.
So: what’s that loneliness doing to our wallets?
That’s what we’re talking about on today’s episode.
