Freebies for your home

01/20/25 - Monday

Hey, y’all!

Whether you’re just spending more time at home during your No Spend Challenge month, avoiding this winter weather, or planning some home upgrades in 2025, you might be fixating on some fun new home projects.

The only problem?

Your enthusiasm might get ahead of your preparation—leading to a few mishaps.

(Who hasn’t started a project only to realize halfway through that you’re missing a tool or two… or the basic understanding of what you’re doing?)

Fear not!

Before you launch into your next big home improvement adventure, check out this list of freebies that’ll keep you from turning your living room into a disaster zone.

🪛 FREE Tool Rentals through a lending library in your area. Why buy new tools for one project when you can borrow for free?!

🪵 Free mulch is offered by many cities to its residents. Check with your local parks department or city website. Alternatively, you can sign up with ChipDrop to request a free wood chip delivery!

📻 Get free appliances or other household items through freecycle, or check your local Buy Nothing group.

🧼 Free paint and other household chemicals or cleaners may be available in your town through Chemical Reuse Centers. Jen and Jill have a swap shop in Pinellas County. Look for something similar in your area!

🚨 Look for programs offering free tests and alarms for common hazards like carbon monoxide and radon. Residents in select areas can order free Radon Test Kits from the American Lung Association and some organizations (like the American Red Cross of Missouri) offer fire alarm installations.

BONUS: GIVEAWAY ALERT! We’ve partnered with a few brands to give a $1,000 Visa gift card + $1,500 gift card to Scott Kemper Imagery (a.k.a. stunning wall art for your home!) + a copy of our book.

🧔🏻 Bill, The Man With The Plan 🧔🏻

While you’re planning home projects, how about tackling something that’ll keep your family safe and financially secure? We’re talking about term life insurance.

If you haven’t looked into it yet, now’s the time. Get a quick and affordable quote with Ladder.

Plus, you can adjust your coverage anytime as life changes (because, let’s face it, life can change faster than a DIY project turns into a Pinterest fail). **

Spending is a skill and you can learn to master it. If you’ve ever struggled with being unable to stick to a budget or felt guilty about spending on something you enjoy, Jen and Jill’s debut book is going to be your next favorite read.
