Happy Friday my friends!
We’ve been talking a lot about adopting a “curious mindset” and the positive difference this can make in our lives.
That said, you may still be wondering… what does curiosity have to do with my finances?
Welp, when we train ourselves to be curious, we are better able to navigate our circumstances with decreased judgment and less shame.
What this means for our finances is increased knowledge of self and the ability to bring our spending into alignment with that knowledge.
When curiosity is our launching point, we have greater potential to truly understand the inner workings of ourselves and the world around us. 🌏
Before making assumptions, we can ask questions about the way we view and approach money in an inquisitive way, rather than a blaming or shaming way.
🚫 This mostly means avoiding WHY questions. 🚫
There’s nothing inherently wrong with this word, but when we begin there, it can often put us on the defense.
“Why” can carry a pretentious, condescending tone that causes our walls to go up. It’s the difference between:
Why do you like shopping so much?
vs.
What is it about shopping that you most enjoy?
Do you see how they hit differently?
One enlists automatic 🥊 fight-mode 🥊 and the other leads to 🌸 “Hmm. Never thought about that. Let me dig deeper!” 🌸
When we avoid shaming, leading questions, and truly seek deeper understanding, we disarm condemnation towards ourselves.
From there, we are better equipped to move towards money decisions that are congruent with what we’re discovering about our values, wants, and needs.
As you slip into the weekend, try asking yourself questions about your money behaviors that begin with:
What (ex. What did I most enjoy spending money on this past week? What is causing me the most anxiety about my money lately?)
When (ex. When was the last time I made a guilt-free purchase? When I look at my spending, what do my transactions say about what’s important to me?)
How (ex. How can I spend my money on the things that matter most to me? How do I feel about the purchases I made this week?)
On Tuesday, we talked about How to Put Good Money Habits on Autopilot. If you want to incorporate more routines and develop better spending habits then this one’s for you.

We LOVE that. It's like the universe's way of winking at us, saying: I got your back! 😉
