and
Hello friends!
If you’ve listened to the podcast for any amount of time, you know how much I, Jill, love my nieces and nephews.
I live far from them, so visiting is one of my deepest joys.
We have so 👏 much 👏 fun 👏.
Mostly because I don’t need to worry about sleep schedules, nutritional content of food, or anything related to behavior modification.
We go on walks, skip rocks, pick flowers, eat snacks, and play tons of games that involve screaming and running around!
In the midst of all these shenanigans, something that continues to strike me about these kiddos is their unrelenting curiosity.
“What’s this Aunt Jill?”
“What does that mean?”
“How come?”
“Why not?”
“When?!”
Granted, practicing curiosity comes quite naturally and easily to kids because they truly don’t know much but what would it look like if we made efforts in adulthood to approach life with a “not-knowing” posture?
I’m not talking about playing dumb but rather actively rejecting assumptions.
This would also mean approaching our various circumstances without pretending to know the future, what’s going to happen next, or thinking that I know the meaning of each occurrence, decision, or behavior; of others or myself!
If I’ve learned anything from my nieces and nephews, it’s that curiosity is aimed at discovery and yet unassuming. Curiosity comes with more questions than answers and includes exploration.
Sometimes, curiosity is satisfied and sometimes it leads to more curiosity.
But the best version of curiosity is the kind that doesn’t already know the answers, isn’t laced with coercion or ulterior motives, but truly wanting to know and unearth.
AND from there, our creativity takes over as we unlock the ability for amplified problem-solving, what if? questions, and excitement about what could be.
To start practicing curiosity and implementing creativity around your finances, consider the following questions:
How is my environment impacting my spending?
How do I feel about the purchases I made this week?
What if I was proud of the spending and saving decisions I’ve made? What would that feel like?
What’s something I can do this weekend that both cares for my needs and my finances?
We had a heartfelt conversation with Amanda Koval on The Costs of Adoption where we took a look at what to expect and how to plan for these expenses when seeking to grow your family.
In Friday’s episode, we looked at the Ways ChatGPT can Save You Money. In the age of developing AI, we’re discovering it’s worthwhile to consider ways of leveraging this resource for our benefit, and turns out there are a lot of ways it can help our personal finances!

Jill’s picks for a stellar weekend.
✅ Watch This: Hocus Pocus. It’s a classic. And what better way to observe Friday the 13th in October!!
✅ Listen to This: Curiosity Daily (a podcast from Discovery). Feed and practice some of that curiosity by learning about whatever topic interests you!
✅ Do this: Have a campfire and tell fun, spooky stories! 🏕️
✅ Eat This: Bean Salad. I’ve been really enjoying this one lately, it’s easy to make, inexpensive, and tasty! Plus it keeps for up to a week in the fridge and only gets more flavorful the longer it sits. 😎
